Meet Promotions Officer, Kate M.!
How long have you been improvising?
I have been improvising since Jr.High. So a decently long time...(k, I'm not like 50, but still) you'd think I'd be better by now, but you shoulda seen me before this. Couldn't say "Hello" in front of a class, now I'm showing off my double-chin Russian accents in front of strangers, ya you want to see that...Good things we got lots of shows ;) .
How long have you been involved with the UIG?
I have been involved for about two years now....a little less, a little more.
What or who got you interested in improv?
Jealousy. Sounds like a weird reason, but I mean rather than stare longingly at great improvisers and charismatic people, I found a way in and now they won't be getting rid of me for a while. Seen that movie "Stuck on You"? NOBODY BE CUTTING US APART NOW!!!
What is something most people don't know about UIG?
Funny people are sexy. You are never more confused than when you realize that someone talking with their belly button on stage is sexier than a picture of any of the Ryans. (Gosling, Reynolds..etc)
What is the best part about being a member of UIG?
The community, we do everything together, and on Wednesdays we wear pink.
Are there any scenes or lines that have stuck with you?
This one time, in UIG... I got a rash.
What advice would you give someone interested in trying improv?
Just do it, realize that this is one heck of a safe space and all you have to do is laugh, smile and enjoy yourself.
Why should someone come to a UIG Show?
Why should someone breathe? The answer is obvious... come or die. Just kidding...of course, but I mean support your community, support yourself, right?
The UIG is a diverse group: what is your field of study/work/interest outside of improv?
I do Spanish. I cook. I pretend to be in a dope band with another UIG member. I do stuff.
Anything else you want to add?
Don't let your dreams, be dreams.
You can catch Kate at UIG's Showdown show on Thursday, February 25, 2016!
