I've been doing improv pretty consistently for the last six years, in middle and high school, and of course this year with UIG! How long have you been involved with the UIG?
This is my first year with the group and I am loving it so far.
What or who got you interested in improv?
In grade 8 there was a drama club that hosted some of the literally worst improv you'd ever seen and I coulda sworn I was the only kid that liked it. After watching "Whose Line is it Anyway" and partaking in that, I auditioned right away for my high school team and got in!
What is something most people don't know about UIG?
That it very likely is going to be your "main squad" at university. Especially for first years and new students, it's awesome to hop right in to a friend group that also happens to do improv sometimes.
What is something most people don't know about you?
Sometimes I get allergies from the sun.
What is the best part about being a member of UIG?
Having that support system and positivity entrenched in the community. Even when I goof up on stage they still support and when I am occasionally funny I can always count on a laugh from them.
Are there scenes or lines that have stuck with you?
When I was in high school I was watching a SpaceJump at the nosebowl tournament and even though I wasn't in it, this guy said out of NOWHERE "can we stop talking about the kardashians? My microwave is on fire." And for some reason that line just stuck right with me.
What do you consider your greatest achievement, either on or off the stage?
I'd say not struggling with uni as much as I thought, I'm pretty proud that I'm currently on the dean's list but still routinely go out on Thursday nights with the improv friends.
What advice would you give someone interested in trying improv?
Just do it! It helps conversational skills, public speaking, and friend making, not to mention the sheer fun of it all. Take that risk, we are here for ya!
What is your field of study/work/interest outside of improv?
I'm taking a Bachelor of Education with a Social Studies major and a Drama minor. Humanities and theatre are my go to fields for sure!
